10 promising business ideas have been selected in Round 1 of the Climate Adaptation Business Challenge

After a successful MatchMaking Event in May we received more than 25 submissions in the first round of the Business Challenge. The jury selected the 10 most promising business ideas for new climate adaptation products and services to develop into successful business plans in round 2 of the Business Challenge.

Business Challenge - three stages:


The starting point of the Climate Adaptation Business Challenge is Ideation: generating new business ideas and translating knowledge into innovative climate adaptation products and services. The MatchMaking Event on 21 May in Amsterdam was organized to boost this ideation process for climate adaptation by connecting people and sharing ideas. Business ideas for climate adaptation (Round 1)
In the first round of this Challenge, all ideas or concepts for adaptation business are welcome to be submitted. Whether you have an idea in the early concept stage or your product or service is already in a further stage of research and development. The best ideas are rewarded to be developed further into (pre)business plans.

For whom Anybody with a good idea or concept for business on climate adaptation. At least one of the members of an applying team should be affiliated with a Dutch organisation.
What do we expect Submit your business idea via the Application form. Convince us that your idea is innovative, contributes to climate adaptation and has great business potential.

  • Up to €10.000 euro to create a (pre)business plan and access to Round 2 for the most promising ideas
  • Climate-KIC Masterclasses, coaching and pitch training in Round 2

Business plan development (Round 2)

The second round of the Business Challenge focuses on the development of high quality business proposals. The selected teams from Round 1 will be supported in creating their (pre)business plan by funding and access to Climate-KIC Masterclasses and coaching. 

For whom Winners of Round 1, who will be announced in the second half of July 2013
What do we expect A detailed, high quality (pre)business plan.
The selected teams will pitch their (pre)business plan in front of an expert jury panel during the Final Event in November 2013.
Deadline 15 October 2013, for the written (pre)business plan
Award Up to €25.000 for implementation of the most promising (pre)business plans, either in the Climate-KIC Acceleration Programme or with support by Knowledge for Climate. Selection is based on the written (pre)business plan and pitch at the Final Event.
