How do you make sure there is enough water now and in the future? Sea level rises, silting up of the land, changed land use and an increasing demand for water creates a mismatch between the demand for water and water availability. To make sure there is enough water in a certain area at all times, you can import water externally. This is not always sustainable. You can also try to retain surplus water and use it later when water is scarce.
The research programme Knowledge for Climate studied water quality together with stakeholders to ensure a sustainable water supply. This resulted in several spin-offs such as the Water buffer and GO-FRESH.
